Planning a Mamma Mia bridal shower? Get inspired by this themed party filled with ABBA songs, bright colors, fairy lights, and DIY decor ideas perfect for celebrating the bride-to-be.

When it comes to bridal shower planning, choosing a theme that truly reflects the bride’s personality makes the day feel that much more special. For my husband’s aunt’s future daughter-in-law—a huge ABBA and Mamma Mia fan—we couldn’t have chosen a better theme than a Mamma Mia bridal shower! From the moment guests walked in to the last sparkle of the fairy lights, it was a day to remember filled with love, music, laughter, and lots of shimmer.
This post is all about Mamma Mia Bridal Shower Ideas!
A Bridal Shower Theme That Felt Like a Party on a Greek Island

This wasn’t your average bridal shower theme. We went all out to give the bride-to-be the Dancing Queen moment she deserved. She’s absolutely obsessed with Mamma Mia, so we leaned into every opportunity to make the party feel like it was pulled straight from the movie. That meant bright colors, lively music, and of course—plenty of disco balls!
The shower took place at a clubhouse with two levels, which helped us create little “moments” throughout the space. The first thing you saw when walking in was a custom welcome sign made by one of the bridesmaids. It set the tone perfectly for the day—and yes, I’ll link it (and everything else we used) at the bottom of this post for anyone wanting to recreate something similar!
Creating the Balloon Backdrop

I was thrilled when my husband’s aunt asked me to create the balloon backdrop. If you’ve been around here a while, you know I love a good balloon garland! Here’s our viral tutorial if you are needing some help with your own diy balloon garland making! For this themed party, I used two white-covered arch frames and paired them with two balloon kits that featured an assortment of blues and silvers. These kits came with various shades—from light sky blue to deep navy—and a pop of metallic silver that really gave it that signature ABBA sparkle.
I had also planned to incorporate disco ball balloons, but in true event-day fashion, I left them behind in the rush! Thankfully, the overall effect still looked amazing. The balloon garland framed our photo booth area beautifully, which quickly became one of the most popular spots at the party.
To add more shimmer to our photo booth and decor, we hung a foil streamer backdrop on one of the arches. My aunt-in-law ordered a cute “Dancing Queen” banner that we placed across the top—honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. If you don’t have or want to use arches HERE’S A POST ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HANG YOUR BALLOONS ON A WALL TUTORIAL.
We had a few extra foil streamers fall off during setup (as they tend to do), but instead of tossing them, we repurposed them as table decor! We added them to our centerpieces to give them that extra glimmer, and it totally worked.

- Balloon kits in blues and silver
- Disco Foil Balloons
- Gold arch stands and white arch covers

DIY Centerpieces with a Disco Twist

Speaking of centerpieces, these were such a fun and affordable idea. My aunt ordered mini disco balls from Amazon that were originally meant as hanging decor, but instead, we used them as vases!
She grabbed a few grocery store bouquets—just the inexpensive mixed flower ones—and broke them up into smaller bundles. We popped them into the tops of the disco balls to create cheerful, sparkly centerpieces that completely captured the Mamma Mia vibe. They looked so good on the tables paired with the soft blue tablecloths.

Setting the Table with Style

Each table setting had paper plates in a soft floral pattern, rolled silverware wrapped in napkins, and a cute surprise: a Ring Pop labeled “Forever Ring”—a playful little favor that guests loved! It was such a fun way to tie in the wedding theme without being too serious.
If you’re looking for easy bridal shower planning tips, I can’t recommend these simple, themed favors enough. They’re affordable, personal, and give the tables a polished, thought-out look.
The Food and the Music (Because It’s Not Mamma Mia Without Both)

No Mamma Mia bridal shower is complete without an ABBA songs playlist. We had Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, and Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! playing in the background all afternoon. It brought the energy up and had everyone humming along—even the guests who weren’t big ABBA fans couldn’t help but smile.
The food was just as fun. We had a mix of sweet and savory dishes, finger foods, and some Greek-inspired bites as a nod to the island setting in Mamma Mia. Above the food table, we hung a large disco ball from the ceiling. That one detail really tied everything together and added a fun, retro vibe to the space.
