What Makes this DIY Wreath so Easy?
What makes this DIY faux magnolia wreath so easy to create? It’s simple—you’re essentially just tying a magnolia garland to a grapevine wreath, and that’s it! Honestly, you can use this same method with any garland and wreath form to craft your own wreath for any holiday or season. Check out how we made this lambs ear wreath using the same method.
Why Should you Make a DIY Faux Magnolia Wreath
Ever wondered why high-end wreaths can cost so much? With your front door constantly exposed to the elements, spending a fortune on a wreath doesn’t always make sense. Instead, why not create a stunning faux magnolia wreath that looks luxurious but costs a fraction of the price? This simple project uses a grapevine wreath form and magnolia leaf garland to craft a wreath that stays beautiful season after season. Plus, you can make it your own—add other faux florals or a ribbon for an extra touch of flair. Want to go fresh? You can easily use the same steps to create a fresh magnolia wreath with real magnolia leaves. The possibilities are endless!
Materials for your DIY Faux Magnolia Wreath

For your convenience, I’ve included links to some of my favorite supplies, though you can find most of these at your local Michaels, Hobby Lobby or even Walmart too:
- 1-2 Faux Magnolia Garland: This is what makes this wreath so darn easy!
- Grapevine wreath form or another wreath base: Choose between a classic grapevine wreath form or a sturdy foam base. (A grapevine base offers a natural look that pairs beautifully with faux florals.)
- Twine or floral wire:Use wire if your wreath will be spending a lot of time in the sun. Or just know you will need to re-twine your wreath after a while
- Scissors or wire cutters : Essential for trimming excess wire or twine
- Optional Embellishments: Consider a satin ribbon, a few extra faux magnolia leaves, faux greenery or florals to accentuate your design
Instructions for the Easiest DIY Faux Magnolia Wreath Ever!
1. Clean up your Grapevine Wreath and other Wreath Materials

Whether you’re using a grapevine wreath form, wire form or a , foam wreath form give it a quick once-over. For a grapevine wreath base, run your fingers along the branches to remove any stray leaves or twigs. This ensures a smooth canvas for your faux magnolia arrangement. You can skip this step for other forms, like a foam wreath form, but it doesn’t hurt to take a look at it and remove the price tag, stickers or store wrapping at this time. Go ahead and do this to your magnolia garland too.
2. Stage your Magnolia Garland on your Grapevine Wreath

Before permanently attaching anything, arrange your magnolia garland (s) on the grapevine wreath base. Lay them out around the entire wreath so you can see the balance leaves. Overlap the branches slightly to cover any gaps to create a lush, full look. If you happen to be using magnolia stems instead or as an addition, snap a quick photo if you think you will need a reference for later! My magnolia garland had a few missing leaves, so I was strategic on the way I arranged the garland to avoid gaps.
3. Secure the Magnolia Garland to your Grapevine Wreath

Once you’re happy with the layout and you don’t have any gaps, use twine or floral wire to attach each branch firmly to the wreath base. Secure the magnolia garland to the grapevine wreath in at least 10 to 12 spots around the wreath. Make sure to twist the wire tightly or knot the twine several times so that the branches won’t shift—this is especially important for a project meant to brave the elements.
4. Give your DIY Wreath the Shake Test

Pick up your beautiful wreath and give it a good shake. This step ensures that every inch of the magnolia garland is securely fastened. If you notice any looseness or gaps, add extra wire or twine to reinforce the design. If you struggle with leaves popping off the garland, consider reinforcing them with a hot glue gun.
5. Trim and Tidy Up
Once you’re satisfied with the stability and overall look, trim any excess wire or twine for a neat finish. Tuck away any unsightly ends behind the a bunch of magnolia leaves. If any branches seem too long or out of place, trim them carefully to maintain a balanced, elegant appearance.
