Let me help you decorate that awkward space in your bathroom by showing you 11 above toilet decor ideas that are functional and pretty!

Most bathrooms have very little room for decor, so it’s smart to utilize the space above your toilet to warm up the small area. So, how do you decorate above a toilet? Well, my first go-to is something that’s practical and pretty like a shelf or cabinet. This way you have more storage and a room to add a few fun pieces to express your home style. However, there are lots of ways to do this, so I turned to good ol’ Pinterest to pull a few of my favorite ideas to help inspire your space.

Above Toilet Decor Ideas
1. Who Says Blanket Ladders can’t go in the Bathroom?
What a fun way to use a blanket ladder and add storage to your bathroom at the same time! This idea is apartment-friendly too! Using a blanket ladder is a unique alternative to a shelf which I love! I found a ladder look-alike on Amazon and listed it below, but it’s an actual shelf.

2. Try this industrial/Rustic Pipe Shelf

This is the way I have our hall bathroom decorated at the moment. The shelf was an easy install (for my husband) and a great storage solution. I found this shelf at Hobby Lobby, but I can’t find it online, so I linked a similar one below (psst it’s more expensive, but I really like the extra bar at the bottom).

3. What about a Compelling Piece of Artwork or Photograph
Are you over the shelf idea (it’s okay, you can be honest) and not looking for extra storage? Try hanging a piece of interesting artwork or a fun photo above the toilet. The black and white photo against this green wall is such a statement! Love it! I highly suggest shopping at Micheals or your local thrift stores for frames. You can find them for fairly cheap at both places and you can always add your own mats to make it look more custom.
4. White Floating Shelves
I love this white-on-white monochrome look with the white floating shelves against the shiplap. These hyacinth baskets add warmth and color to the space and it really helps complete the look. Love it!

5. How about a Vintage Window Frame?!

This is how my Mom has her bathroom decorated. I love it! It’s not overly decorated and super cute. If you’re not looking for extra storage, a rustic window frame paired with a beautiful wreath is a great way to fill the space above your toilet!

6. How about Some Gold?!
Gold is such a fun detail to add to your home. I would consider gold to be a fun neutral that adds texture to any space. For whatever reason, I have a hard time adding gold to our home and I want to fix that. It’s so pretty and I don’t know what my problem is :).

7. Framed Prints or Drawings
Do you have some favorite or fun prints laying around? What about hanging them above your toilet to help personalize the space?! I like the minimal and clean look created here. Like I mentioned above, I highly suggest shopping at Micheals or your local thrift stores for frames. You can find them for fairly cheap at both places and you can always add your own mats to make it look more custom.
8. Hanging Rope Shelf

How cool is this DIY rope shelf my bestie made for above her toilet?! She made it all by herself! This is a fun alternative to floating shelves and adds more texture to the space. If you don’t fee like making your own, I added a link to a similar one on Amazon below.

9. Square or Box Hanging Shelves
These square/box shelves help add dimension to the space. I like how they are displayed as the focal point in this space, but keeping the rest of the area and decor white. The shelves add warmth.

10. Repurpose an Old Vintage Cabinet
I know, cabinets above the toilet are not a new concept, but what if we got a little more creative? What about repurposing a cabinet from another space? How cool would it be to revive an old vintage cabinet from a thrift store and hang it above the toilet? I love this one so much! It’s also a pretty way to hide the bathroom clutter!
11. What about 1 shelf instead of 2 or 3
I like the more minimal approach to this look with one shelf instead of 2 or 3. The large print helps fill the space perfectly without adding another shelf. The basket on top of the toilet adds the option of storage that may have been lost with the additional shelf.
