These Cheap and easy DIY lemon theme party decor ideas that will make your next celebration absolutely perfect!

When I saw that lemon themed party décor was trending, I had a moment of regret—we just threw my mom a fiesta-themed 60th birthday dinner (check out this post for the fiesta details) a couple years ago! But then I realized her birthday fell on a Saturday this year, and I thought, why not celebrate big again? My mom has always loved lemon themed décor, way before it became trendy. I grew up surrounded by a kitchen full of lemons and hints of blue, and now that I’m older, I truly appreciate it.
So, we kept the guest list to just our immediate family, my parents, us kids and the grandkids, but went all out with lemon party decorations!
Lemon themed parties is the perfect theme for lots of celebrations like a 1st birthday (a sweet one), baby or bridal shower (she found her main squeeze), a sweet 16th birthday or even just a summer party bbq. This theme isn’t just for summer parties, you can totally throw a lemonade party during the winter months. If you’re looking for inspiration for a lemon themed party or just a dinner, here’s exactly how we pulled it off.
This post is all about lemon theme party decor ideas!
Lemon Theme Party Decor Balloon Garland for a Wow Factor

If you ask me, party themes are not complete without a balloon garland. I used one of my trusted balloon arch frames from Amazon—a must-have among party supplies—along with the Happy Birthday light purchased for my sister-in-law’s 40th birthday. Using the cluster method, I simply clipped the garland onto the arch. The vibrant yellow and blue color palettes of the balloons brought the party decor to the next level and perfectly complemented our overall lemon themed party. If you want an easy step-by-step guide, check out my easy and DIY blog posts on balloon garlands for beginners.

Lemon Theme Party Decor Tableware Set

I wanted to keep things minimal yet cohesive. I ordered a lemon-themed party kit from Amazon that included all the essential party supplies needed to make the theme pop without going overboard. Although we served lasagna for dinner and saved the themed plates for dessert, they worked perfectly. The tablecloth was too busy and small for our table, so I repurposed it as a table runner.
A Simple Yet Stunning Lemon Centerpiece

For the centerpiece, I filled my wooden tray with real lemons and some DIY rag balls. Check out my DIY tutorial for these! To top it off, I added a pre-made bouquet from Kroger. Originally, I planned to make my own floral centerpiece, but spotted this one as I was walking out. Pro tip: Check your local grocery store for affordable, gorgeous flowers—Trader Joe’s is my go-to. Plus, the bouquet can double as a gift for the guest of honor at the end of the event.
Dessert Display & DIY Cupcake Liner Banner

The party kit I ordered included lemon-themed cupcake liners that I initially planned to use for homemade cupcakes. However, life got in the way, and we ended up picking up some desserts from Sam’s (which were delicious!). Not wanting to waste them, I repurposed the cupcake liners into a cute DIY banner that perfectly accentuated our Happy Birthday balloon banner. This simple yet creative touch ties together the lemon themed party in a delightful way.
Happy Birthday Balloon Banner

Speaking of banners, our Happy Birthday balloon banner truly elevated the festive vibes in our kitchen. A little tip: Give yourself plenty of time to inflate these balloons manually—a regular balloon pump can be too powerful and may pop them. The extra effort paid off, as the banner filled the space beautifully.
Themed Beverage: Lemonade, of Course!

No lemon themed party is complete without the perfect beverage—lemonade, of course! We served our lemonade in a stylish glass dispenser and garnished it with sliced lemons, creating a refreshing drink that tied the whole party together.
Digital Lemon-Themed Invitations

Even though it was just a family birthday dinner, I wanted my Mom to get excited about the theme, so I quickly created and sent out digital lemon themed party invitations using Canva. These invitations helped set the tone for fun celebration.
