How to Organize a Small Kitchen
Start with the Pantry
One of the very few things I would change about our house is the size of our small pantry.. however, I love a good organizing challenge! I am excited to share my pantry organization tips and tricks with you to help organize your space and keep it that way! My organizational discoveries work for pantries of all sizes too! So, if your blessed with more pantry space than we are, I know these tips will still come in good use for you! Did you know an organized pantry can save you money? Personally, I save a lot of money at the grocery store when my pantry is organized because I tend to not buy so many duplicates. Anyone else have multiple jars of cumin? lol
First step is to take everything out of your pantry. This is a good time to consolidate multiple containers and toss out old food. Then you will want to break your food up into categories such as cans, boxes, snacks, etc.. Your categories will be unique to you and your family’s needs.
Once you have sorted through your food, you can start placing your goods back into your pantry by category. Again, your categories will depend on your family. We store large items at the top, our boxed items, snack and bread bins, cans, and then we leave the floor empty due to the occasional mouse friend (#countrylife).
I go into greater detail about my favorite bins and other organizers on my Pantry Organization 101 post.
Get Rid of those Wire Shelves.. Or at Least Cover them Up!
Not only is wire shelving ugly but the large gaps between the wires make them impractical too. Stuff can fall through the gaps so easily! However, having them replaced with wooden shelves isn’t feasible right now. I have used this amazing hack on our pantry and our linen closet so far and I love it!
It’s safe to say that I’m not the biggest fan of this builder-grade shelving solution, which is why I am showing you how to cover the wire shelving for super cheap! Did you know you can update your wire shelves with just foam board and pretty contact paper? Seriously! It cost me less than $10 to update my pantry and linen closet! It’s so easy too!
