What Do you Put on a Tiered Tray?
Add Some Faux (or real) Plants to your Tiered Tray
Faux or not, one or two plants or greenery pieces will add some life to your display. As you can see (see my title image at the top) on my current tray, I have a eucalyptus stem on the top and a faux plant on the bottom. Plants help add color to the tray while still being neutral… which I apparently like. My DIY cement planters would be a great way to add texture and life to your tray if you are feeling crafty.
Display a Cute Sign to your Tiered Tray but Be Careful to not be Too Wordy
Adding catchy phrases to your home is a fun way to show your personality, but please don’t make me read a novel when I look at your tiered tray.. or anywhere else for that matter! One sign is more than enough for the small space. My Mom gave us the “Our Nest” sign when we bought our fixer upper. If you can’t find a sign you like or can’t find the right size, check out my DIY Reversed Canvas sign tutorial here to make your own!
Throw a Beaded Garland on your Tiered Tray
Drape a beaded garland on your tray to add some texture. Beaded garlands are like jewelry for your home. They are the perfect accessory! I even have a Dollar Tree DIY version you can try if you are feeling creative!
Add Some Contrast to your Tiered Tray
When choosing pieces to add to your tray, try and pick a variety of textures and colors to add interest. If your tray is dark, add some light-colored wooden beads. As you can see, my tray has a little bit of everything from the metal “P” to the blue glass candleholder. So be sure to mix it up!
Think Small when Choosing Decor for your Tiered Tray
This is somewhat obvious, but be sure to stick with smaller decor pieces when shopping around for your tiered tray. There’s limited space and only certain items will fit. You should be safe by choosing candles, little signs, plants, or maybe my DIY chain link.
Where do you Buy a Tiered Tray?
I bought my tiered tray on Amazon, but I am seeing them show up everywhere you can find home decor nowadays. When picking out a tiered tray, consider if you want there to be contrast. If you are using the tray as a centerpiece on your dark wooden table, consider going with a lighter material for your tray and vice versa. I bought my white wooden tray before we redid our countertops, otherwise I probably would have went with a darker wood now that I usually have our tray displayed at our breakfast bar. As you can see, I solved the “issue” by using this braided placemat underneath.

What is a Tiered Tray Used for?
Tiered Trays Make for Great Centerpieces
Tiered trays make for great centerpieces since they allow a 360 view which is why I like to use mine as a kitchen table centerpiece (click here to check out more kitchen table centerpiece ideas) sometimes.
Decorate your Tiered Trays for the Holidays
Do you have a lot of small holiday knickknacks? This is where your tiered tray will come in handy! I like using my tray to display the little holiday pieces that I have trouble finding a home for. Use your tiered tray to display some of your favorite holiday pieces like miniature pumpkins in the fall, eggs during Easter and Santa mugs for Christmas.
Use Tiered Trays for Pretty Storage
Not enough cabinet space in your bathroom or kitchen? Why not use your tiered tray for storage? You can store things like spices or small utensils in the kitchen or cotton balls and q-tips in the bathroom. Load the tray up with your necessities and stick it in the corner for extra storage that’s not only practical, but pretty to look at too!
Use your Tiered Tray to Serve Dessert
Elevate your dessert table with your tiered tray at your next party or function! I’ve used ours at the hot cocoa bar for Christmas and mini desserts at bridal showers. It adds height and interest to any dessert display! Check out my dessert table at my bestie’s bridal shower here.
