Homemade Mother’s Day Gift Ideas that don’t Suck!
1. Poster Hangers
Mom would just die over one of these poster hangers for Mother’s Day! You can scale it way down and include a family photo, cute shot of the grandkids or a sentimental shot from way back when. These large poster hangers cost me $2 to make and they are HUGE! This is an inexpensive way to cherish Mama on her special day. You could always include this with other items like a gift card or a nice candle. Get creative! Well, I think I’ve finally come up with an ACTUALLY GOOD solution that is affordable, interchangeable and
2. DIY Wreath
My toxic trait, like most DIYers, is looking at something in the store and thinking, “I could totally make that”. I have most definitely been guilty of spending more on supplies than it would have been if I would have just bought the actual item itself. However, you will never see me buying a wreath instead of the supplies. Why are wreaths so expensive? Check out this wreath-making guide to see how you can make a beautiful wreath for her front door for less than you can buy one! You can add her favorite florals and personalize it to her space. She is guaranteed to love it!
3. Jute Basket
This DIY jute basket looks so cute hanging from our blanket ladder, but it can also be used to organize or store things too! Make Mom one of these baskets to display a cute plant (real or fake) or organize a few beauty products in her bathroom. All you need is rope and hot glue.
I love this DIY because it’s a great way to tie in a room by using paint colors that coordinate with other decorations in your space or personalizing them with significant words, names, and phrases that are meaningful to your family. Make one for Mom that includes names of all her children or grandkids. She will love the personalized touch! These pillows turned out way better than expected and I am excited to show you how easy it was to do. You could even gift it with a cute and comfy throw blanket for Mom too!
5. Cement Planter DIY
I can’t wait to make a few more of these for my summer plants this year! Is the Mom in your life a plant lover? Make her a customized planter and fill it with a plant from your local nursery? Planters can be pricey, so why not make your own!? Not only is the material cheap, but a mold can be created out of virtually any material found at home. Amazon has lots of premade silicone molds like the one I used (click here) too. Anyone with a green thumb will love the personal touch of this inexpensive DIY. I made several this past summer and had so much fun with them! Now if only I was better at keeping the plants alive.
6. Jewelry Dish
Does Mom have a place to stash her special rings or jewelry? If not, why not make her one using only three ingredients! These salt dough ring dishes are so easy to make! Have the kiddos help decorate the dish for Grandma/Mom to cherish forever. I wear my wedding ring 99% of the time, but I didn’t have a safe place to set it when I take it off to shower, moisturize or apply product to my hair. One of my worst fears is to lose my wedding ring! I would be absolutely crushed and heartbroken. Not to mention how upset it would make Alex. So, to avoid heartache, I whipped up some salt dough! It’s the same recipe I used to make my salt dough ornaments, and just as easy and fun to make.
7. Photo Transfer
With this photo transfer method, you can easily gift all the Moms in your life a wooden canvas of their favorite photo while staying on budget! Who knew transferring photos could be this easy!? Have you ever wanted to have some of your favorite photos printed on wood but didn’t want to spend the money? I’ve seen DIY photo transfers on Pinterest for years but thought it was too good to be true. I didn’t understand how I was going to get a photo onto wood and make it look nice enough to display. You guys, it’s shockingly easy! The hardest part is waiting a few days for your image to fully transfer.
8. Book Stacks
Personalized book stacks are a great way to personalize your space, so why not give the gift of personalization?! No matter what season of life Mom is in, book stacks are the perfect way to celebrate her and her family! A new mom would enjoy a stack personalized with their baby’s name and birth info, or how about listing the grandkids’ names for your beloved Grandmother? These charming stacks are cheap and easy to make too!
9. Reversed Canvas
How about a small personalized sign for Mom’s office or home? A reversed canvas is a fun and easy way to personalize your space! A reversed canvas makes for a great gift too! I usually fill my frames with canvas or large photos, but recently discovered this awesome shiplap version! If you’re not super thrilled with your lettering, I have a tutorial for that too! PS: I cheat!
